Shooting suspect in custody after Odessa standoff

ODESSA, Texas — A sheriff's dispatcher says a man who shot two deputies and another person was in custody after a standoff with law officers.

The dispatcher had no additional details.

The Odessa American reported the man was placed in custody after an explosion sent thick smoke into the air.

Sgt. Gary Duesler said the shootings happened Friday after Luke Bedrick went to the suspect's home to repossess a trailer. A deputy was called, and the suspect fired on him and Bedrick. Bedrick was struck once and the deputy, Ricky Tijerina, was shot twice.

Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene, and the suspect shot another deputy, Sgt. Steve McNeil.

The two wounded deputies were hospitalized in stable condition, and Bedrick was treated and released.
